Being a Tutor Doctor Franchisee isn’t just about making money; this enterprising franchise hand-picks their franchisees because we want to make a difference to the communities in which it operates. Community involvement is a central tenant of the Tutor Doctor franchise and their franchisees help organize community events, run school committees and sponsor sports teams. In keeping with the ethos of community upliftment, Tutor Doctor Colchester North and Write Way PR and Copywriting Services teamed up to offer budding authors a chance to showcase their skills in a writing contest.

The organizers were overwhelmingly pleased by the number and quality of the entrants. Said James Cracknell from Tutor Doctor Colchester North: “All the entries were excellent, but our winners particularly stood out.”

The contest encouraged young writers to emulate articles they had seen in popular UK newspaper, the Daily Gazette. They could put their own spin on articles they had read in the Gazette or come up with original articles.

Sally Anderson-Wai, of Write Wai, said: “It is great to be able to encourage these young people, who are on the threshold of choosing which career path to take. The standard of all the entries for our competition was very high. We had a difficult job choosing any winners, but the winners stood out because they had gone the extra mile and shown the initiative inherent in any reporter. Their stories were more original in content, they had done their own research and showed great use of language.”

The winners and two runners-up were given a tour of the Gazette offices. Editor of the Gazette, James Wills: “It was fantastic to see so many youngsters interested in writing and considering a future in journalism. We really enjoyed showing them how a newspaper is run and look forward to seeing them again.”

Erin Smith, a Thurstable School pupil, was the first prize winner and took home a Kindle Fire. Runners up were Bethany Hollis and William Cox from Colne Community College and Colchester High respectively and they took home Amazon vouchers.
