Having entrepreneurial spirit is welcomed at the Tutor Doctor Franchise, but it isn’t enough to qualify prospective candidates to be education franchise owners. The Tutor Doctor franchise holds its franchisees to a higher standard, because they aren’t just in the business of making money, they are also community builders.
A great example of a successful community builder is Jon-Anthony Lui, a Tutor Doctor Franchisee from Hamilton in Ontario, whowas recently featured on Franchising.com , “Making a difference with young ones has always been a passion of mine. We all remember who made an impact on our lives at some point--a teacher, friend, relative, or mentor--and I liked the idea of capturing that magic and releasing it upon the masses in an organized, structured way. That's a beautiful thing,” says Lui.
Jon-Anthony Lui is a wonderful example of entrepreneurial spirit. He acquired his first tutoring business in 2009 and, by 2014, he was the brand's largest franchisee, and was named Franchisee of the Year. But for Lui, it’s the community-building that really sets Tutor Doctor apart from other education franchises.
Attracted by the efficacy of the Tutor Doctor model, Lui really enjoyed the fact that owning his own education franchise allowed him the freedom to create a flexible schedule that worked for him. The lack of brick-and-mortar storefront meant that he had a low initial investment and low monthly overheads: “I liked the idea of having a business that allowed you to work on it rather than in it. I love the strategy of it. It's like playing chess: you always have to think a couple of moves ahead.”
While Lui enjoys the business side of owning a profitable tutoring franchise, he gets the greatest reward from helping the families in his care. By giving their children the tools they need to succeed, he knows he leaves a legacy of uplifting the community that will continue for many years, “When a family knows someone is helping them address their child's needs, it reduces stress and gives them more time to focus on being a family. That's what it's all about.”
