March 1, 2016Gordon Dickens went for a regular eye exam that may just have saved his eye. When Gordon decided he needed new glasses, he had no idea that he had a detached retina—a problem that, left unattended, could eventually leave him blind in his right eye.
“I had no symptoms or difficulties but the optician who carried out my eye test conducted a thorough examination and wasn’t happy about something he saw in my right eye. He called me back for a second look and then referred me to my local hospital for further investigation.”
What the optician found was small lesions that result when a retina starts to detach from the eye. This is a fairly common event and Gordon was operated on the day after his diagnoses and managed to make a complete recovery.
Gordon and his wife, Maria, are active it their community. As owners of a Tutor Doctor franchise, they are realizing their dream of working together and building their community while helping families whose children need academic help.
Their home tutoring business allows them to choose their own schedules, so Gordon was able to take the time he needed after his surgery to make a full recovery. He won’t be resting on his laurels for long, because their profitable tutoring franchise is growing from strength to strength. Says Gordon: “Our marketing strategy focuses on creating local interest in our services and we’ve seen an increased rate of growth over the past three months. We now have a solid base to our business which we expect to double over the next four to six months.”
When asked if he would recommend a Tutor Doctors franchise to others, Gordon has just one word: “Absolutely!”
