December 19, 2019For our latest franchisees feature, we introduce you to David Boddy of London. David was named Tutor Doctor’s Rookie of the Year, along with his partners Suzie and Victoria. As it turns out, the team’s journey to operating a Tutor Doctor franchise is a little different than most.
David, Suzie and Victoria previously worked together at an educational services company that eventually purchased a Tutor Doctor franchise and asked the trio to run the business. “Without a doubt, our previous experience in education and business has been of immense help,” David says. “We can speak to families with authority and they trust our educational judgement.”
In addition to having a passion for education and a deep knowledge of the British school system, Davis, Suzie and Victoria all have backgrounds in communications, making them pros at community outreach and marketing efforts.
Making a Difference
David was originally drawn to the Tutor Doctor franchise opportunity because of our dedication to having a positive impact on lives. “My colleagues and I have spent our professional lives trying to uplift the people we are working with and for,” David says. “Once I heard that the Tutor Doctor mission is to change the trajectory of people’s lives, I knew I had to look at the opportunity closely.”
What started as closely looking at the Tutor Doctor opportunity has turned into David and his team managing three empires, covering most of Central London and Southwest London. “We acquired our first empire in early 2018 and starting operating last September,” David says. “In February 2019, we acquired an existing territory covering Richmond, Wimbledon and Wandsworth. This month we have gone further with the acquisition of a third empire.”
He Has the Grit
As his business rapidly grows, David relies on his Tutor Doctor training to manage his existing business. “We have certainly needed the grit we were told about in our training,” David says. “We are very grateful to the many people, especially the team from Home Office, who have been so supportive to us during the year.”
And we are honored to acknowledge their team’s accomplishments in their first year of operation with the Rookie of the Year award!
It Takes Confidence
One trait that has helped Boddy grow his business so quickly is confidence, in himself, his team and in the Tutor Doctor system. “Our backgrounds in education have let us feel at ease and full of confidence from the beginning,” David says. “You have to have the confidence to charge prices which let you make a profit. We need to position ourselves at the higher end of the tutoring service spectrum.”
Tutor Doctor’s system allows David and his team to provide the expertise clients expect, shown in the results of students.
Results Matter
“Results are very important. At the end of our first year’s academic cycle, our students improved by an average of three grades,” David says. “To go from a D to an A, or from a 5 to an 8 in public exams because of the tutoring, is massively rewarding for us all. And very good for on-going business too.”
David finds positive results immensely rewarding and takes pride in, “watching the joy on the youngster’s face when his exam results come through.” With Tutor Doctor, David is able to have a positive impact on the young people in his community.
