Franchisee Richard Russo explains what compelled him to buy a Tutor Doctor Franchise:
I started my Tutor Doctor franchise in October 2013. Before that I had worked for many years as an accountant for small and midsize companies. In the last few years before I started my Tutor Doctor business, jobs became harder to get and the companies kept getting smaller and smaller.
In my almost 40 years of working I was proud of the fact that the longest I had ever been out of work was about 6 months. That record was broken in 2010 when I was laid off.
I was out of work for almost a year. During that time off I explored the idea of starting my own company along with my wife, Karen. I looked at purchasing an existing business and looked into various franchise opportunities as well. Then a new job came along and I was back doing the work that I had always done.
After a year and a half at the new job, I was bored and restless. I started looking for other opportunities again. I am not an entrepreneur, so building a company from an original idea was never going to happen. I discarded the idea of buying an existing business because I didn’t want to take over someone else’s problems.
I really started to research franchises at that point. I looked at several. One thing I certainly did not want to do was cold call customers. I also did not want to purchase a franchise that required owning a building. Money of course was another factor. Then we found Tutor Doctor and it really seemed to be a franchise that Karen and I would really like to own.
My wife, Karen, and I are in our third year now. The business is growing slowly. We look forward to the future and we are still happy to be a Tutor Doctor franchisee.
