October 28, 2021An experienced operator and marketer, Bernardo Cortés Acar is no stranger to the world of business ownership. However, he is new to the Tutor Doctor system. Bernardo joined us in the summer of 2020 and has since created a significant presence in his market in Mexico.
Bernardo believes his professional experience has positively impacted his business but thinks there is more to becoming a successful franchisee than a seasoned work history. Learn more about Bernardo’s growth-minded approach to business and his advice to prospective tutor franchise owners.
Tutor Doctor: Bernardo, you have spent the last several years owning and operating a marketing business. Do you think this has prepared you for Tutor Doctor ownership?
Bernardo Cortés Acar: Yes, of course. It has helped me in many ways. First of all, you need to have a competitive team. This is the very first step to developing a new company and a new brand in the marketplace. Secondly, you must set the right operating, sales, and marketing tools that will allow you to be prepared for the market needs. And last but not least, you need to be very patient. This is something that nobody can teach you. It’s something that comes with experience and allows you to be successful in the long run.
TD: Why did you decide to invest in a tutor franchise?
BCA: There were three main factors I considered when I was looking to expand into a new business. First: diversify in a service category with little to no presence in Mexico. Second: a category where we could generate synergy with the marketing business. Third: a business that could generate passion for the service provided.
TD: Have you experienced any unexpected benefits since investing in a Tutor Doctor franchise?
BCA: The most important unexpected benefit is that I have gotten to know many people in the Tutor Doctor network. For me, it’s been such a great opportunity to make friends and expand my professional network. There are many visionary and talented people that are always willing to help and to share their experiences.
TD: Tutor Doctor emphasizes the importance of support for our franchisees. How have our support systems impacted your business?
BCA: Our business coach has been very supportive since the beginning. He’s always willing to help and whenever something arises and we need his advice, he’s there to provide it. His vision and expertise in the business is very valuable. We’re still in the learning process of many things, but we’re integrating our expertise in the Tutor Doctor business model. Our business coach is open to new ideas and he encourages us to create, use, and implement innovative strategies.
TD: How has technology played a role in your business?
BCA: Our business operations technology, BANG, is an excellent system! We are still discovering its potential and all the support that we need to have full control of the business.
TD: As a pioneer in your market, where do you see Tutor Doctor Mexico heading in the next few years?
BCA: Our goal is to position Tutor Doctor Mexico as the leading tutor franchise serving high-quality services to the marketplace. I also see the brand expanding its presence into other states in Mexico.
TD: What qualities do you think a tutor franchise owner needs to succeed?
BCA: There are many things required, however, I think there are five intangible key elements to being successful in business: passion, conviction, effort, decisiveness, and patience.
TD: Any advice to prospective Tutor Doctor franchisees thinking of starting a new business?
BCA: I’d tell them that Tutor Doctor is one of the best choices I’ve ever made. It’s a business model that enables you to be part of change in society by helping others accomplish their dreams while making your own dreams come true.
