Parker Knapp is a long-standing Tutor Doctor Franchisee. She represents all that we want our franchisees to aspire to. As the owner of a profitable education franchise, she has the most important characteristic we look for in all of our prospects; compassion. What sets Tutor Doctor apart from other tutoring franchises is our exceptional customer service, which is led by compassion. Parker explains why taking a personal interest is so important for her tutor business.
“As a 4th grader, I missed three weeks of school due to illness and when I went back, it was a tremendous adjustment. I also had a poor relationship with the teacher who did not help me to catch up. Tutors weren’t really an option in those days, but luckily we had a family friend who was a teacher and she helped me to catch up on the work that I had missed. The results were great, but my classroom teacher accused me of cheating. The experience was very traumatic,” she says. “When I see a child who is coming home from school crying or is having a bad year, it really resonates with my own experience and I know exactly what they are going through. Better still; I know that I can turn that crying child into a happy child, that I can change the outcome and put them back on the path to success.”
If you are thinking of starting a tutoring business, great customer care means you have to make a connection with the students and their parents. This can be a wonderfully rewarding experience as you know you are changing people’s lives for the better.
“It’s very validating,” says Parker. “While I am glad it is a successful business, it is really personally satisfying. I find it especially rewarding when my children recognize my accomplishments. It also enables a good work/life balance and it’s possible to balance family life and a career.”
When you start with Tutor Doctor, you are going into business for yourself, but not by yourself. As Parker explains, the Tutor Doctor family provides you with all the help you need.
“Tutor Doctor is a family and if we welcome you into the fold, we want you to be successful. Talk to as many of our family members as you can before you commit to being a franchisee. It is a demanding commitment, but a very rewarding one. We want everyone to be successful and we are going to give you all the support and training you need to achieve that success,” she says.
