As the new year approaches, it’s a great time to look back and reflect on our achievements. In reviewing 2016, it’s evident that Tutor Doctor has had one of its best years yet. We have expanded to more than 450 franchise units in more than a dozen countries, and those numbers will likely only increase in 2017.

Tutor Doctor has also been fortunate enough to receive industry recognition from a number of prestigious institutions, confirming that our unique tutoring process and our proven franchise system are the best on the market. 2016 has been a banner year for us and there are numerous accolades we could mention, but here are just a few of the highlights:

TUTOR DOCTOR NAMED AS A 2016 ‘TOP FRANCHISE’ ON ENTREPRENEUR'S FRANCHISE 500 LIST

In January, Tutor Doctor was named to Entrepreneur's Franchise 500 list. This, of course, came as no surprise as Tutor Doctor has made it onto the Entrepreneur’s list every year since 2009. This year we appeared at number 157 out of 500 franchises.

TUTOR DOCTOR MAKES FRANCHISE DIRECT TOP 100 LIST

Franchise Direct released its 2016 Top 100 Global Franchises report in February and Tutor Doctor ranked 59th in the world. Tutor Doctor was the highest ranking in-home tutoring franchise on the list.

TUTOR DOCTOR RANKED TOP TEN IN CHILDREN'S FRANCHISING

The Canadian Business Franchise Directory for 2017 includes a list of the top franchises in Canada, and the Tutor Doctor Education Franchise placed in the Top Ten Children’s Franchise category. The competition for franchises in Canada is fierce, but Tutor Doctor’s unprecedented growth over the last five years, coupled with its culture of caring, makes it one of Canada’s most popular franchises.

ALEX SCOTCHBROOK BFA FEMALE FRANCHISEE OF THE YEAR FINALIST

This past summer, 20 of the UK’s best franchisees were announced as finalists for the British Franchise Association HSBC Franchisee of the Year Awards 2016. The awards, which recognise “the highest standards, performance and business excellence of entrepreneurs across the [UK]” included Tutor Doctor’s very own Alex Scotchbrook.

TUTOR DOCTOR IS REVOLUTIONIZING ONLINE TUTORING

2016 saw Tutor Doctor launch a revolutionary mobile app for Android and iOS that will transform online tutoring. Much in the same way customers “hail” a ride on Uber, Tutor Doctor On Call allows students to log on, find a tutor in their area who specialises in their subject matter, and who is available for an online tutoring session, all at the student’s convenience. TUTOR DOCTOR IS HELPING CHILDREN IN AFRICA

Tutor Doctor was proud to participate when our own marketing coordinator, Michelle Morris, volunteered to help deaf students in Kenya. Michelle, 22, spent two weeks in the country with other volunteers as part of Project Riandu. This group of volunteers came together to support the Mbeere Mothers’ Union in their dream project of building a specialised secondary school for deaf students. When Michelle told Tutor Doctor about the venture, we jumped at the chance to support such a worthy cause, helping her reach her fundraising target and supplying resources.

TUTOR DOCTOR HELPING TROUBLED KIDS IN EDINBURGH

Children have a hard enough time navigating school, but those whose parents are HIV-positive and/or are battling drug or alcohol addiction are at risk of getting left behind. That is why Tutor Doctor’s Martin Browne is partnering with Positive Help, a charity partially funded by Scottish Government, to provide support for children affected by HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C across Edinburgh and Lothians.

TUTOR DOCTOR WINS CANADIAN BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARD

Very recently, we were pleased to learn that Tutor Doctor was named the recipient of the Canadian Businesses Excellence Award for Private Businesses. The award recognizes businesses from all industries that demonstrate a strategic approach to successfully improving performance and achieving goals.
